VOLI: prints on silk is a new label for wearable art works designed by Pete Volich. I am an Artist and Designer who lives in Split, Croatia who was born in Albany, Australia. I have been making and exhibiting Photography, Collage and Printmaking for the past fifteen years in Australia and Europe and have recently transitioned to design, making Fine Art prints for silk.

 

I have been inspired by the classic origins of the Croatian Cravat and have developed my label VOLI which explores ideas about fairytales, storytelling, myth, and folklore.

My first series of prints on silk has been inspired by a Croatian fairytale about a She Wolf. From 2011 - 2013 I lived and worked in a remote Indigenous community in Australia called APY lands (Anangu, Pitjantjatjara, Yankatjatjara) I was a Studio Manager for an Art Centre. It was here that my perspective on storytelling, myth and folklore. It inspired me to return to my ancestral home of Croatia and start making new work using silk as my medium.

Its called VUKOJEBINA (where wolves go to f**k) all imagery in this series has been taken by me using animals from the Split zoo.

 

A shape shifter.....one day running as a lone She Wolf, the next day transforming into a pretty maiden. As most fairytales play out, one day she was met by a handsome man, they fell in love, married, had a child. Her wolf skin hidden from her by her husband in fear she would transform. One day her son questions her true identity and reveals the location of her skin.

And then?

She returned to the woods, as a wolf...leaving civilisation for
VUKOJEBINA (where wolves go to f**k)

I've worked with an amazing printing company from Australia called Think Positive Design, who specialise in bespoke digital printing onto fabric. All the designs in VUKOJEBINA make up a storyboard of a current day fantasy fiction based on the story of the She Wolf.
